Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss on the scalp, face, and in some cases other areas of the body. Alopecia areata can affect both males and females. There is no way to predict how alopecia areata will affect you, everyone will experience a different pattern of hair loss. Some of the symptoms include small round or oval patches of hair loss on the scalp, face, and other areas of the body. Others may experience hair loss and hair regrowth at the same time. Alopecia areata does not cause any redness, rashes, or hives to the skin.

Currently, there is no cure for alopecia areata. The most common treatments are corticosteroids and anti-inflammatory drugs that will suppress the immune system. It is very important to protect any exposed skin on the scalp or face from sun damage by using an SPF.
