Saw Palmetto and Hair Loss in Women and Men.

Saw palmetto is a plant that has been used for hundreds of years for healing among Native Americans. Among many of its uses, it is a DHT blocker.

Why does that matter for hair loss? DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, which causes hair loss. Another hair loss benefit of saw palmetto is that is has displayed anti-inflammatory properties. The inflammation of hair follicles can also cause hair loss.

These findings are especially helpful with androgenic alopecia. In fact, a published review in late 2019 out of the Archives of Dermatological Research states saw palmetto as one of the plants with the most evidence-based effect against alopecia.

The recommended dose of saw palmetto is 160 milligrams twice a day.
